I’ve just finished up my fourth and final week as an intern in the newsroom at CTV Atlantic here in Halifax. It was so fast-paced and at times overwhelming but it was an incredible learning experience and I would go back in a heartbeat (if I were getting paid). Really though, I miss it already.

While I was at CTV I spent most days pitching ideas at the morning meeting and then shadowing reporters on their stories for the day. During the month I got to do a few of my own news reports.

For these stories I worked with an ENG camera operator to get visuals, conducted interviews and selected clips, wrote a script with voice over, and oversaw the editing of the piece.

Although it’s a lot of work, it really seems like a goal that could one day be reality. In the next few weeks I’ll be taking a much-needed vacation, graduating from my undergrad, applying for some jobs and looking for summer freelancing opportunities! Wish me luck and keep an eye out for me on the 6pm news someday.
